Samsung QN90D: Editorial Review

Score: 5.0 / 5 MSRP: $899 Test duration: 10 days

The QN90D targets bright rooms and gaming setups with abundant headroom. HDR highlights are forceful, and local dimming keeps blooming in check unless you view far off-axis in a dark environment.

For gaming, four HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K/120, VRR, and ALLM make setup easy. Input lag stays low, and Samsung’s Game Bar remains one of the better quick-control overlays. Motion handling for sports is clean with modest judder reduction.

Tizen is fast but busy; disabling ad placements improves the experience. Audio is adequate; pairing with a soundbar unlocks Atmos and better dialog clarity.

Strengths

  • Exceptional brightness and HDR punch
  • Full HDMI 2.1 array with VRR/4K120
  • Strong local dimming for a QLED
  • Great for bright environments

Limitations

  • Blacks not OLED-deep
  • Interface ads require toggling off
  • Best paired with a soundbar

Editorial Decision

For bright living rooms and gaming setups, the QN90D is one of the best non-OLED options. If you primarily watch in a dark room and want perfect blacks, consider OLED; for mixed use with high brightness and gaming flexibility, the QN90D excels.
